About Me
I worked at the Stanford Office of Undergraduate Admission from 2010-2014. My roles included Admission Officer, Seasonal Reader, and Diversity Recruitment Associate. During that time, I did outreach to potential applicants, read and evaluated applications, served and voted on admissions committees, and came to understand how a highly selective admissions office works.
The thing I liked most about working for Stanford was meeting and reading applications from so many amazing, inspiring young people. The hardest part about it was having to say “no” to most of their applications. When I met 12th graders at college fairs, high school visits, and drop-in appointments, I often wished I’d met them earlier in their high school careers, and been able to advise them about how to increase their chances for admission.
In 2014, I was offered an opportunity to do some admissions consulting work with international students. It was a chance to apply my admissions knowledge, but from the other side of the desk. I got to work with high school students directly, sometimes as early as 9th or 10th grade, and help them understand how to prepare for college. I’ve been doing this work ever since.
I believe that, when done well, a college search can also be a soul search. It’s a chance for students to get to know themselves better, become clear on what motivates them. This can prepare them to make the most of their college experience.
I work with students from a range of backgrounds, and with a range of goals. My clients have included:
- International students from all over Asia and Europe
- Students attending boarding schools, private schools, charter schools, and public schools
- Transgender and nonbinary students
- LGBTQ2S+ students
- Recruited athletes
- Fine Arts majors
- Transfer students
- Students with disabilities
- Rural students
- Indigenous and Native American students
My educational background includes an A.A. from City College of San Francisco, a B.A. with Honors from Stanford, and an M.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. I also did a certificate in Working in Contemporary Native Nations at UCLA School of Law, and additional coursework at the University of Minnesota and Sitting Bull College.
